ABOUT

So why the title Dogsbody?

The story of my chasing suitable domain names around the internet is a long and tragic saga.

At some point I will tell the whole sad story, and put a link to it in the website; so you can see how I suffered.

But I’m not going to bore you with it now.

The supply of suitable domain names got pretty thin. The I hit on DOGSBODY. It isn’t perfect insofar as it’s kind of a stretch to justify it logically; a bit like George Costanza’s explanation to Marisa Tomei regarding his fascination with the word Manure.

But I hope it’s not quite that bad.

In British parlance a general dogsbody is a low level employee; someone who does all the menial tasks that everybody would prefer to leave to somebody else.

So maybe you could say that this website has to deal with all the humdrum garbage-in garbage-out electronic Rube Goldberg pyrotechnics required to create a haven for literary masterpieces (or even feeble attempts at literary masterpieces). Okay, it’s a stretch. But hang in there.

DOGSBODY has a lot going for it. Okay maybe not a lot, but perhaps a couple of things.

First of all the complete expression is General Dogsbody. Working with this I can produce a nom de plume for the website’s principal email recipient: general@dogsbody.blog. This might suggest that you are writing to a high ranking military personage, or alternatively it might just mean that you are communicating with the general mailbox at the Dogsbody blog site. It gives it a certain élan.

Also Dogsbody is MEMORABLE. It’s no worse than The Huffington Post, or Bloomberg News. And what’s so informative about the word Substack? All those names lack any intrinsic meaning, but they all kind of stick in your head. I would contend that DOGSBODY could well do the same.

Anyway I bought the domain name; so DOGSBODY is what it gets to be. Enjoy (as they say).
